Online fraudsters under accusation

Some married couples are in business together, some open stores, mom and dad shops and similar things. But here's a case which is a bit awkward - this is the first case ever of an Internet investment scam in Malaysia.

And as many other things that appear for the first time in a country - it comes with a little "help" form abroad. The couple that has been accused on this matter is a 59-year-old Briton, by the name of John Marsden and Phan Sew Ken, 55. If I had written this piece of news a few months ago, the I would have been a little surprised, but as of late I've seen a lot of elderly people involved in cyber-crime - to think that the man is close to 60. Other people his age would not even dare to dream of this!

As PA News informs, the two have pleaded not guilty in a Kuala Lumpur court on Tuesday to illegally collecting deposits through two Internet-based companies between 2004 and 2005, said Fahmi Abdul Moin, prosecuting officer with central Bank Negara.

Cyber-crime is terribly escalating, you can see it just by paying attention to the news and not only that, but facts show it as well. I think this is just the beginning and that things are bound to get a lot worse, because you don't need a lot to be a cyber criminal - all you need is a little brain and a computer. Plus, you can be any age and still commit crimes over the Web - you can't be a cat burglar at 60, but you can sure scam some people over the web!

This just shows that as the world advances and technology helps us do some things a lot easier, it also helps criminals too. It has always been a two edged blade, so don't act surprised!
