32-year-old star Brittany Murphy passed away in December ’09, after going into cardiac arrest. As toxicology results are still pending, speculation abounds that drug use or some severe addiction might have played a part in the actress’ death, an allegation both her husband Simon Monjack and her mother Sharon Murphy are denying in a recent interview for The Today Show, as People informs.

According to the two grieving relatives, Brittany was not addicted to cocaine, prescription pills or alcohol. She did not have mental issues, was not anorexic or depressive. On the contrary, she was a very happy woman, one who loved every second of her life and whose only heartbreak in recent weeks had come from being offered a part in “Happy Feet 2” and then have the offer pulled, Monjack says. Rumors of addiction or destructive behavior are unfounded and continue to be circulated despite being false.

“Let’s set the record straight once and for all – Brittany was not taking any medication for her mood, for anorexia. It’s utterly ridiculous that these rumors have perpetuated,” Monjack says, adding that the star only took painkillers for about 5 days a month for menstrual pains and mood swings. “Absolutely not [she was not an anorexic]. You just need to go to her favorite restaurant, Chateau Marmont, and speak to any waiter, who would tell you that she would happily order four plates of food and eat them all,” the husband goes on to say.

“[Matt] Lauer also pressed about rumors of Murphy’s cocaine use over the years. A ‘physical impossibility,’ Monjack said, because of a heart condition Murphy suffered called mitral valve prolapse. Monjack also had some harsh words for Hollywood. He said the rescinded offer for Murphy to play the role of Gloria in ‘Happy Feet 2,’ which occurred a week prior to her death and followed her loss of another job, broke her heart,” People further reports of the interview.

Monjack is not subtle about who he considers responsible for Brittany’s death either. He says Hollywood has blood on their hands and they’d better wash it in really hot water because it won’t be coming off that easily, hinting that losing the part in “Happy Feet 2” might have meant more for Murphy than just losing a job. Below is a fragment of the interview.
