When hungry, people are more tempted by high-calorie foods

Following their studying the shopping behavior of 68 people, a team of researchers found that hungry people should definitely not go shopping for groceries.

This is because, as explained by several previous studies, hunger pangs make high-caloric foods more appealing that they usually would be.

More precisely, the volunteers who were sent to buy groceries on an empty stomach ended up buying significant amounts of candy, salty snacks and red meat, Live Science reports.

On the other hand, those who had eaten some crackers before entering the supermarket made more healthy choices.

According to the same source, one other experiment has shown that people are more tempted to purchase more high-caloric foods when out shopping between 1 – 4 p.m.

This is because people naturally get hungrier during lunchtime, the researchers explain.

A detailed account of these experiments and their findings was published in the May 6 issue of the Journal for the American Medical Association.
