Hundreds of people belonging to as many as thirteen green groups have walked out of the ongoing UN climate summit in Warsaw, Poland and now say that the meeting is a complete waste of time.

By walking out of this meeting, the environmentalists protested the failure of the nearly 200 governments present at the summit to agree on measures intended to limit climate change and global warming.

“Enough is enough,” they say about the seemingly endless talks that are yet to address the threats human society is facing and pave the way for a global climate action agreement in 2015.

“The Warsaw Climate Conference, which should have been an important step in the just transition to a sustainable future, is on track to deliver virtually nothing,” the World Wildlife Fund writes on its website.

“In fact, the actions of many rich countries here in Warsaw are directly undermining the UNFCCC [UN Framework Convention on Climate Change] itself, which is an important multilateral process that must succeed if we are to fix the global climate crisis,” the organization adds.

The thirteen groups are now convinced that the UN climate summit in Warsaw is pretty much pointless, and, after walking out of the meeting, did not hesitate to lash out at Australia, Canada, Japan and Poland and blame them for this status quo.

Thus, they accused these four countries of putting the interests of dirty energy industries over the interests of ordinary folks living across the world.

“The Warsaw Conference has put the interests of dirty energy industries over that of global citizens – with a ‘Coal & Climate Summit’ being held in conjunction; corporate sponsorship from big polluters plastered all over the venue; and a Presidency (Poland) that is beholden to the coal and fracking industry.”

“When Japan announced that it was following Canada and backtracking on emission cut commitments previously made, and Australia gave multiple signals that it was utterly unwilling to take the UN climate process seriously, the integrity of the talks was further jeopardized,” the World Wildlife Fund explains.

In the aftermath of this incident, the green groups and their supporters say that they will take it upon themselves to pressure national governments and get them to tackle climate change and global warming before it is too late.

“We are now focusing on mobilizing people to push our governments to take leadership for serious climate action,” the environmentalists say.
