Gamers can take advantage of a big Winter Sale

The organizers of the Humble Bundle video game initiative are saying that, in the four years since it was introduced, the concept has managed to deliver more than 50 million dollars (36 million Euro) to a number of charities, while also allowing a lot of gamers to get access to a range of titles for lower than expected prices.

The company says that the biggest recipients of funds were Child's Play Charity, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the American Red Cross, Charity: Water, and Doctors Without Borders, but others were also considered by gamers.

This means that gamers directly contributed to the delivery of health care in hard-to-reach areas, got clean water to countries that lacked it, delivered books to schools that did not have them, and allowed disabled people to enjoy video games.

The Humble Bundle concept is very simple to understand and more details can be seen in the attached video.

John Graham, one of the co-founders and chief operations officer of Humble Bundle, states, “We never imagined after the first Humble Indie Bundle that we might one day reach this milestone. It is hard to truly comprehend the magnitude of $50 million for charity. We owe our thanks to the generosity of the Humble Bundle community - to the content creators who entrust us with their works of art and to the consumers - for making this possible.”

At the moment, the service is running a major Winter Sale that gives gamers access to a wide range of game experiences, both classic and modern.

Humble Bundle has a very simple idea

The entire store front is built on the idea that gamers will be attracted to bundles of titles, some of which they might not have known before, that come with no Digital Rights Management solutions and with a lower than usual price.

All those who make a purchase can also choose the charities they want to direct the money towards, which made the initiative even more popular. Game creators get a cut as well, also determined by the gamers.

The Humble Bundle first focused on indie titles but has since also worked with the big publishers of the moment.

It will be interesting to see whether the concept can remain relevant in the long term or there’s a point when the number of titles that can be packaged dwindles, leading to a loss of interest from the gaming community.
