A human rights group known as the Civil Rights Defenders has introduced a new type of CAPTCHA to prevent bots from spamming.

CAPTCHAs represent one of the most efficient ways to prevent fraudulent automatic sign-ups and spamming, and the system will surely not disappear anytime soon. However, from time to time we learn of an organization that attempts to improve it.

The Civil Rights CAPTCHA is different because it doesn’t rely on barely visible scrambled letters. Instead, it forces the user to take a stand regarding facts about human rights.

The customer is presented with a question and three words describing positive or negative emotions. In order to solve the puzzle, the user must express how he/she feels about a certain situation. However, only the answer showing compassion or empathy is correct.

For instance, the question is: In Kosovo people are tortured in detention. How does that make you feel? The possible answers are “very bad”, “relieved” and “magnificent.” Unless “very bad” is typed, the process cannot continue.

The system’s creators are relying on the fact that it would be impossible for a bot to guess the right answer.
