Human Head Studios, the creator of the Prey franchise and the temporary developer of Prey 2, confirms that it's proud of the work it's done on the now-canceled title and that Bethesda will help the series moving forward.

The original Prey title impressed quite a lot of people when it initially came out many years ago, delivering a novel experience in which players guided a young Native American called Tommy through an alien space ship that had crashed on Earth.

After some problems with the publishers, the studio sold the rights to the series to Bethesda, while working on Prey 2, a sequel that focused on another main character and some vastly different adventures.

The studio worked hard on the game and even made some impressive presentations to the media, but for quite a while, nothing was mentioned about the shooter, and a brief time ago, Bethesda officially confirmed its cancelation.

The studio hasn't worked on the title for some time

Now, Human Head has released a statement about the recent announcement, saying that it hasn't even been involved in the fate of Prey 2 as of recently.

"We can confirm that Human Head Studios has not been involved with Prey 2 for some time," says Tim Gerritsen, business development director at Human Head, tells VG247.

Human Head is proud of its work

Gerritsen also emphasizes that the studio is still quite proud of the work done on the game, despite the cancelation decision taken by Bethesda. According to the developer, there was plenty of excitement surrounding Prey 2 but he hopes that Bethesda can still honor the series in the future.

"While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to deliver our vision of the game, we remain proud of our work on the franchise, which we feel speaks for itself, including the award-winning presentation of the game at E3 2011. We enjoyed working with the many talented people at Bethesda, and we wish them all the best of luck with any future plans they may have for the franchise."

Prey 2 followed a brand new character from Earth that became a bounty hunter and traveled the galaxy, capturing alien criminals and bringing them to justice, while remembering things about the events of the initial game.

For some time, there have been rumors about Bethesda tasking Arkane Studios with working on a rebooted Prey 2 project, but so far, the publisher and the developer have been silent on the matter.
