He’s already proved he can do a variety of roles in all genres. British actor Hugh Laurie is now facing a much bigger challenge: that of convincing men that using beauty products doesn’t take anything from their masculinity.

He’s been named the latest spokesperson for L’Oreal Men Expert range, which, as the Daily Mail underlines, also includes Gerard Butler and Patrick Dempsey as spokesperson.

In his usual style, Laurie kicks off the first ad for the men’s range for the cosmetics brand on a high note, by taking a dig at those who consider him just as handsome and irresistible for the ladies as Butler.

The video shows him reclining in an armchair, as a pretty assistant is doing his manicure: “I am Gerard Butler. This is how I look before I’ve applied” L’Oreal, Laurie says.

He also touches upon topics like beauty (and how’s a model deep down inside), beauty products for men and what a wonderful manicure he’s been given while the ad was shot.

In a statement released to the press and cited by the Mail, Laurie says that men are often inclined to believe they shouldn’t use beauty products but, by doing so, they ignore their many advantages.

“At first I thought it was a mistake, but then I realized that L’Oreal wasn’t looking for models but for people with strong personalities, who are worth it... and who aren’t afraid to proclaim that using cosmetics can be a very masculine decision after all,” Laurie says on a more serious tone.

Nevertheless, for those who’ve seen him on Fox’s critically acclaimed medial drama “House M.D.” (in particular, this being the part that helped him break the US), seeing him as a spokesperson for a men’s skincare line is not that out of the ordinary as he tries to make it appear.

Laurie may not have “model” qualities (whatever he may understand by that term), but he is considered a very handsome and charming man.
