Actor’s wife of 17 years admits that she’s bothered by reports that she’s just a beard

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have been married for 17 years, which, in an industry like showbiz where even a one-year marriage is considered “long,” is quite a feat. However, it’s been years that rumors that Hugh is secretly gay have been making the rounds.

In a new interview cited by NineMSN, both the actor and his wife address these rumors, with Deborra finally admitting that she finds them deeply disturbing and infuriating.

“It is just wrong, it’s like, it’s a lie,” she says.

“It’s just offensive. If he was gay, fine, he would say he’s gay. It has gotten so out of whack … it’s stupid, yeah, it’s annoying, because it’s not true,” Deborra continues, adding that playing a gay man does not make an actor gay, just like playing a psychopath doesn’t either.

Hugh too insists he’d say he’s gay if he really was, and not marry a woman, adopt two children with her and start a family, and then deceive the world for years.

“If I was [gay], I would be. It’s to me not the most interesting thing about a person anyway, but I do get frustrated for Deb, because I see Deb go ‘Ah, this is crazy’,” he says.

This is not the first time that the actor, who has starred in several blockbusters and successful Broadway shows, says that Deborra is having the worst time dealing with the gay rumors.

In February this year, while promoting the critics-favorite “Les Miserables,” Jackman told The Hollywood Reporter that all these reports claiming he was keeping his wife as a beard were terribly upsetting for her.

Fans (and not only) who’ve seen the interview he did before the THR chat, last December, in which he teared up when he spoke of the sacrifice Deborra made so that he could pursue a career in movies, know that there can’t be any truth to all these rumors.
