After having played everyone's favorite self-regenerating mutant Wolverine since the early 2000s, Hugh Jackman has confirmed that he doesn't plan on extending his role for more than one more film, something that has disappointed more than a few fans.

His next statement is sure going to upset even more fans, while some might actually swear off the X-Men for good. In an interview quoted by Entertainmentwise, Jackman claims that he would like his successor to be Channing Tatum.

“I don't know who could play [Wolverine]. Channing Tatum could probably play him,” theorized Jackman. Meanwhile, Tatum, who has recently lent his voice to Superman in the box office hit “Lego Movie,” has expressed interest for another mutant character from the same franchise.

“Gambit's my favourite. I'm from New Orleans, around that area. My dad's from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real,” Channing told the press at some point, and there was even talk of giving him his own spin-off as producers seemed thrilled to explore that avenue.

As thousands of chants of “noooo!” can be heard coming from the people reading these lines, it should be mentioned that Jackman's cast in the X-Men movies have roughly the same opinion as you.

James McAvoy is quoted as saying to Jackman “Nobody could step into your shoes. They've got to retire the character when you finish. When you're done with it, they retire the character.” People all over the world agree.
