Hugh Jackman may play one of the most indestructible superheroes of all times on the big screen, but he’s only human after all. The Australian actor had to have surgery for skin cancer again, it has emerged.

After photos of Hugh with a bandaid on his nose made their way online, his publicist confirmed for E! News that he had to have another surgical intervention, for the third time in less than a year.

On the bright side, the actor is “all good” now – and still using his voice to warn of the dangers of not wearing sunscreen.

Hugh Jackman is lending his voice for a very important PSA

Jackman has had two more surgeries because of his skin cancer diagnosis, the first one in November last year, and the second in May 2014. On both occasions, he accompanied the announcement of the surgeries on social media with warnings to his fans to never forget to use sunscreen and thus run fewer risks of health complications like his own.

Speaking the aforementioned celebrity publication at the time, he underlined that he’d been diagnosed with “basal cell carcinoma, which of all the skin cancers, is the most minor,” so there was no reason to panic. He also seemed prepared for having even more surgery in the future.

Also at the time, he said that his skin cancer was the direct result of his being “lazy” and not applying sunscreen, a mistake that many people make these days. Specialists warn that SPF should be applied even when not out at the beach, on a daily basis, if possible.

Never underestimate the importance of sunscreen

We should strive to make applying SPF into a habit, which we’d incorporate in our daily routine, right before applying makeup (for women) or after washing the face in the morning (for men). Besides protecting us from the harmful rays, we’d also be moisturizing our skin for the duration of the day and creating a barrier against the impurities and the harmful effects of the elements, such as cold weather.

Really, there’s nothing to lose in applying sunscreen before going out the door. Jackman himself knows this now, though he wishes someone had told him earlier because it would have spared him of a lot of trouble.

“I'm realistic about the future and it's more than likely that I'll have at least one more but probably many more, which is not uncommon for an Aussie particularly from English stock growing up in Australia where I don't remember ever being told to put sunscreen on,” he said, urging his fans not to be the lazy kid he was and always apply sunscreen.

Speaking of the importance of SPF and how we should never underestimate its benefits, here’s a song that should play in your head whenever you think of going out of the house without it. That’s director Baz Luhrmann narrating: you probably know him for “The Great Gatsby,” “Moulin Rouge,” and “Romeo + Juliet.”
