20th Century Fox reportedly lost a lot of money when “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was leaked in almost complete form shortly before the official release – and even more when it was thrashed by critics after it dropped in theaters. Overall, nothing seemed to point that a sequel would be made, but fans of the franchise should not lose hope, because star Hugh Jackman just reveled to MTV that a follow-up to the “Wolverine” film was still being made.

The Australian actor was at the Teen Choice Awards 2009 ceremony, where he picked up his own surfboard for Choice Movie Actor: Action Adventure. In his acceptance speech, he chose to remain somewhat vague and off-topic, but he still offered a couple of details that hinted a “Wolverine 2” was in the making. Come to think of it, a sequel would make plenty of sense at this point, since Fox is already working on a Deadpool spinoff and common logic would dictate the Wolverine film must also happen, several movie-oriented publications point out.

“I’ve been putting on the claws for about 10 years now, so it goes to show if you practice hard enough you eventually get it right.” Jackman said when he got on stage, referring to his character in the highly successful “X-Men” franchise. “Who knows? Maybe Wolverine will use one of these when he heads to Japan.” he added, holding up his surfboard which serves as the actual award. “See you next time around!” Jackman also said.

Speaking with MTV after the awards ceremony, the actor revealed that he was very serious about what he had said on the stage, even if his words could not count as an official confirmation just yet. Jackman has always been a fan of the Wolverine series, therefore he would be more than eager to take the character to the next stage, the star himself revealed. Unfortunately, as of then, those were the only details he could make public since the project was still in its early stages, he also said.

“The ‘going to Japan’ was pretty serious, the ‘using the surfboard' was not.’ Japan is where we’re heading, [and] we’re starting to work on it now. We’re in... the first steps of developing that story. I think the fans love that saga. It’s my favorite saga of the Wolverine stories. That’s a movie I’ve longed to make from the beginning, so that’s where we’re heading.” Hugh Jackman further explained.

Keep an eye on this space for when Fox goes official with the “Wolverine 2” announcement and offers more details on it.
