We all know and appreciate the efforts that Hugh Jackman put in so as to transform himself into the grumpy and violent mutant Wolverine, but we haven't known that the Australian actor actually put his manhood on the line at one point.

Think about all those times that you too dreamed about having those nifty Wolverine claws, and then think about how cumbersome they would be in everyday life. That's exactly the point Jackman wanted to make when he spoke about an unpleasant accident on the set of the movie.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Jackman recounted a particularly painful incident when he was filming on set, “There was a very intense first scene and I insisted on a closed set. I ran round the corner and all the female members of the crew were gathered there.”

“I tried to cover myself and cut my inner thigh - it was just the inner thigh thankfully!” the actor added, putting female fans at ease that he was still very much a man to this day.

He also jokingly added, “The metal claws had to go - you can't have bits and pieces flying off,” and everyone in the audience, male and female, nodded in agreement, because no one wanted that to happen.

Ever the good sport, Jackman claimed that, despite this unfortunate incident, he “quite enjoyed” walking around the set without any clothes on, adding that it was a “very freeing feeling.”

Sadly, after this next Wolverine movie, we'll have to say goodbye to Hugh, who announced that he would be hanging up his Adamantium claws and leaving the franchise after many and profitable years.

“I'm excited to see what we can come up with, but I haven't signed on signed on. I'm genuinely at that point where unless it's better than the last one I'm not going to do it. We are looking at a lot of different storylines. No one has jumped out. You can tell from my answer that we're still working it out,” he admitted.

Questions now arise as to who will be able to fill his shoes and do justice to the character. Gossip indicated that Channing Tatum was being eyed as a suitable replacement, and even Hugh went on record to say that Tatum was the only man he saw taking up Wolverine's character.

Tatum, meanwhile, said that he had no desire to play Wolverine and had his eye set on Gambit instead, something which the producers of the franchise are now said to be seriously taking into consideration, and there are talks for a Gambit spinoff in the not-so-near-yet-not-so-far future.
