Gentleman actor assaults paparazzi with deadly weapon (food?)

The deadly can of beans, as handled by Hugh Grant

First off, I don't even know if there is such a thing as being charged for assault with a deadly can of beans but, if there was, then Hugh Grant would probably be found guilty of it. That is, if pictures don't lie... The British actor is being accused by a paparazzo of bodily harm and injurious behavior on a public street. In plain English: Hugh Grant whooped his ass and then swore at him and wished cancer on his children (the photographer's, not his).

The incident took place a couple of days ago when, according to the injured pap, Grant was outside his home in Chelsea, preparing to go for a jog. The freelance photographer, Whittaker, says he did nothing but stand aside (he claims he didn't trespass on the actor's private property) and nicely ask him to pose for a couple of pics, on the grounds that he would snap him anyway so it would be best if he smiled in them.

And then all hell unleashed for the nosy photog: apparently, Hugh, the man about whom the entire media knows he doesn't like that kind of intrusion (preferring to pose for pictures only when promoting a movie), followed the photographer (who turned his back to leave!) and kicked him three or four times and then kneed him in the nuts. Then, Hugh went back into his house, only to come back with a plastic container with beans in his hand, that he threw right in Whittaker's face.

Also, according to the victim, when he tried to defend himself by asking Hugh not to harm him because he has 'two children', the once role-model for good behavior reportedly answered 'I hope they die of f**king cancer!'. Now, if this is true, it's just sad. You don't go wishing other people's children dead just because you're having a crappy day!

'I walked backwards and he walked after me. He kicked me hard four or three times then kneed me in the groin', the freelancer said and he has the photos to prove it. Scotland Yard confirmed the incident but could not release the name of the parties involved. Until now, the police confirmed that a man was arrested following the altercation and released on bail. A court hearing has been scheduled for next month.

Whittaker hasn't yet made a statement as to the damages he's seeking but, if many were in his stead, they would probably be happy with only getting those pictures. Aside from the fact that it's a shame to get beaten up by Hugh (not to mention with a can of beans!), no one is actually going to believe that the paparazzo actually 'turned his back' on the actor and was about to leave the premises without getting his shots! Puh-lee-zee!
