Dropping the price by nearly half should definitely have an effect

Barnes & Noble hasn't been having the same success on the e-reader and tablet markets as Amazon, which must be why it intends to cut prices on its Nook HD tablets.

B&N has two tablets up for sale at the moment: the 7-inch 8GB Nook HD and the 8.9-inch Nook HD+.

The former currently ships for $199 / €199, while the latter is priced at $269 / €269.

Seeking to sell its slates as fast as possible, B&N will supposedly cut the tags to $129 / €129 and $149 / €149, respectively.

Of course, the truth runs a bit deeper than that. When I said that B&N wasn't doing as well as Amazon, marketing-wise, I might as well have said that it was doing poorly.

Case in point, B&N said, some time ago, that it was backing out of the tablet market. These price cuts are meant to digest its remaining tablet inventory.
