Big is the word of the season

This season, when it comes to jewelry, hip equals as big as it gets. From necklaces and bracelets, to rings and earrings, they all ought to be oversized and a bit chunky. That can’t but be good news for those who enjoy showing off their eccentric side every once in a while. Designers have now decided that it's about time to make some room and bring earrings into the spotlight as well, since, for entire centuries, they've been la piece de resistance in every woman's outfit.

It was back in February, on the red carpet at the Oscars, that we first got a hint as to what a new trend in terms of accessories might bring. However, it took until this fall to make us see that this was one trend that was here to stay. Nothing boring or common about it either – wonderful colors and shapes are about to take by storm your jewelry collection. Of course, this also means that it’s about to get bigger than ever before.

The colors of choice also have something of the aggressiveness of the latest trends: look for red, intense shades of green, purple, and even for black insertions on your huge earrings. Because the shape is quite audacious (the chandelier earrings are the most astonishing, as they seem timeless, with a subtle note of antique beauty), the catchy color is clearly not an aspect you should overlook. Even if you prefer brighter tones, you can still prove you’re a true fashionista by choosing from the impressive amount of trendy gemstones (diamonds and emeralds are gorgeous, but for your everyday look some colored stones should do just fine) and materials waiting for you.

The newest trend and the extravaganza it brings about should come as a surprise to no one, as it has been somehow anticipated by the similarly colorful fashion tendencies, like the lively folk boho. You can create superb and unique combinations of ethno frocks with huge tribal earrings, or anything else you  might imagine – as long as you remember the golden rule of always keeping it simple, and wear only one big piece of jewelry at a time.
