Recently at Taipei, Taiwan Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., leader in advanced semiconductor technology has announced the next memory solution for multimedia handsets.

The new generation of multimedia
card, moviNAND, combines a MultiMediaCard v.4 (MMC) with 4GB of NAND - serial memory cell that has 1 less contact per pair of cells than NOR memory, making NAND less expensive to produce.

MMC is an open standard developed by Siemens AG and SanDisk included in MP3/MP4 players, digital cameras and small form-factor PCs, as well as mobile phones.

moviNAND can transfer multimedia data like videos, photos and music at speeds of up to 52 MB/second allowing for much faster data storage and retrieval.
