14 DAY TRIAL // The developers at Sony Online Entertainment working on the MMO DC Universe Online have confirmed that they are planning to allow gamers to directly engage primary antagonist Brainiac in an upcoming content update for the game.
Brainiac was central to the DC Universe Online experience since the game launch in early 2011 and players have been mainly fighting in order to make sure that his plans for world domination never become reality.
Jens Andersen, who is the creative director working on DC Universe Online, told PC Gamer that, “Never count a comic book character out, but yes, this is Brainaic’s final push. But it will be an ongoing one as he tries to recover from the player’s resistance and future Luthor’s manipulation of everyone, including Brainiac.”
It seems that the developers are not yet ready to say which character from the DC Comics universe will become the main source of evil in the MMO although they are hinting that none will be on the same scale as Brainiac.
Brainiac is also, in some ways, source of the newly found superpowers for the player characters, and the storyline of the game will also have to deal with how his defeat affects the new heroes.
The developer added, “We want to provide a many-colored tapestry for our players. Focusing on one storyline isn’t needed with the pace at which we release content. So players can look forward to the next chapter in this story, resolutions to some of our launch stories, as well as totally new things in the years to come.”
Apparently, the final battle against Brainiac and his minions will take place on Paradise Island, where Wonder Woman is based, and will involve an epic raid instance that will test the abilities of the high level players.
The development team at Sony Online Entertainment has not offered a launch schedule for the Brainiac oriented update for DC Universe Online.
