The picture above was taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope this past April 19.

By the looks of it, this stunning image of the Horsehead Nebula was snapped to mark Hubble's 23rd birthday.

Thus, the telescope was launched on April 24, 1990, and since then it has been spending its days glazing at the skies and taking pictures of it.

This particular picture of the Horsehead nebula was taken in infrared light. According to Space, mission officials explained how, “The result is a rather ethereal and fragile-looking structure, made of delicate folds of gas – very different to the nebula’s appearance in visible light.”

Just for the record, the Horsehead nebula finds itself at a distance of about 1,500 light-years away from our planet.
