If you live in the US and want to purchase a cheap but decent handset, Motorola’s second-gen Moto G might be a very good option for you. But if for some reason you don’t want to go with Motorola, in a few days, you’ll be able to pick up a worthy alternative.

Ahead of the big launch event for its flagship, Huawei will also be releasing a new low-end phone on the US market. The device is called Huawei SnapTo and will go on sale on Amazon on April 9 for a $179 / €166 price with no contract.

The handset is already available for pre-order online in black and white versions. As for specifications, the Huawei SnapTo is supposed to arrive with a 5-inch LCD display with 720p resolution. The phone’s powerhouse consists of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 quad-core CPU, Adreno 305 GPU, plus 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable memory.

Huawei also throws in a 5MP/2MP camera combo and a 2,200 mAh battery to maintain things going. The phone supports AT&T and T-Mobile 2G/3G/4G/LTE up to 150Mbps download speeds.

The SnapTo might be a good solution for those who don't want Lollipop

Sadly, the Huawei SnapTo runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and there’s no word on whether the company plans to update the handset to Android 5.0 Lollipop anytime soon.

The phone maker has just confirmed Android 5.0 Lollipop for its Ascend Mate7, Mate2, P7 and G7 models, but the SnapTo is a low-end model.

For comparison’s sake, we’ll remind you that the second-gen Moto G arrives with a 5-inch IPS LCD display with 720p resolution and draws life from a Snapdragon 400 processor working hand in hand with Adreno 305 GPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB).

The model doesn't originally have LTE, but in some markets like Brazil, Motorola launched a variant that supports 4G.

The second-gen Moto G sells for the same price as the Huawei SnapTo on Amazon. The big difference is that Motorola has updated the phone to Android 5.0.2 and already announced it would be rolling out the latest Android 5.1 at a later date.
