14 DAY TRIAL // Huawei has recently introduced an under-specced version of its P8 flagship, called the P8 Lite. The phone is already available for purchase in Europe, but during a press event in New York, Hauwei has launched the phone on the US market, as well.
The smartphone is available for purchase for $249.99 / €222 a pop, unlocked and contract-free. Luckily for US customers, the pdevice is a bit cheaper than in Europe, where it costs $300 / €260.
As it is pretty obvious from its name, the P8 Lite is a mid-range smartphone that packs decent specifications.
While the global version of the handset arrives with a 64-bit octa-core HiSilicone Kirin 620 chipset clocked at 1.2GH, the P8 Lite US shoppers will be able to get their hands on will take advantage of a Snapdragon 615 fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable memory.
Huawei tries to conquer the US market with a mid-range device
As it appears, the rest of specifications remain unchanged. The device is equipped with a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720 resolution) IPS display and is kept alive by a sensible 2,200 mAh non-removable battery.
In the photography department, we find a 13MP main camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while on the front lies a secondary 5MP camera for selfies and video calls.
Connectivity options for the P8 Lite include LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0, and Wi-Fi b/g/n.
Last but not least, there’s an odd difference between the two versions of the Huawei P8 Lite (the international one and US one). While the former boots Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box, the American version comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Emotion UI 3.0 pre-installed.
Given the fact that Huawei is not very quick to update its phones to the latest software standards, we fear that customers will have a lot to wait until the company decides to roll out the update.
Anyway, if you can move past getting a non-Lollipop phone, you should know that the Huawei P8 is available in white/gold/gray from the device makers website but also through Amazon, Best Buy, and other major retailers in the country.
