Chinese mobile phone maker Huawei is getting ready for making its Ascend P2 smartphone available to more users around the world, and has announced the availability of the device on the network of wireless carrier Telstra in Australia.

The Android-based smartphone will arrive on shelves at the operator with support for Category 4 LTE connectivity, and will be put up for sale before the end of this month.

Starting with July 30, Telstra’s customers will be able to grab the new device for $0 on the $60 (€42) Every Day Connect plan. SIM-free, the smartphone will cost $504 (€354).

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Ascend P2 was launched with a 4.7-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) touchscreen display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2, as well as with a 1.5GHz K3V2 Quad-Core CPU inside.

Furthermore, the handset sports 1GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory, as well as a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and a 1.3MP front camera for making video calls.

The specifications list of the new device also includes Wi-Fi b/g/n/ with Wi-Fi Direct capabilities, Bluetooth 4.0 (LE+EDR), built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS, and a 2350mAh battery.

Measuring 136 x 67 x 8.4 mm and weighing 122 grams, the mobile phone arrives on shelves running under Google’s Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system, with the Huawei Emotion UI loaded on top.

“The Ascend P2 is a great phone for customers wanting a quality 4G Android device on an affordable plan,” Andrew Volard, Telstra director, device management, said, a recent article on Ausdroid reports.

“And when you team it with our superior mobile network, customers will get a fast and reliable experience with the Ascend P2 around Australia. The addition of the Ascend P2 to the Telstra product line up continues our commitment to providing more choice and access to the latest mobile devices for our customers,” he added.
