14 DAY TRIAL // Google is expected to launch a new high-end smartphone later this year, but the search giant has yet to confirm which company will build it. Just like every other year, rumors on the next Nexus smartphone start with the manufacturer.
This year multiple sources in the industry claim the next Nexus smartphone might be manufactured by either Huawei or LG. Including Huawei on the short list of possible Nexus builders was a bit unusual since the Chinese company has been accused by the US authorities for spying.
Handing the manufacturing of the next Nexus smartphone to Huawei would have probably decreased its sales in the United States in the worst case scenario.
However, the latest rumors seem to indicate that Google plans to work with LG for the next Nexus smartphone. Anyway, these are just speculations and there's a high chance that Google is still deciding which company will build its next flagship smartphone.
If that company is Huawei, Slashgear has published a few pictures of a Nexus 8 smartphone that could be made by the Chinese company.
The Nexus 8 concept is based on the already available Huawei Honor 6 Plus, so those who are familiar with the Chinese company's products might recognize it immediately.
The Nexus 8 will pack better specs than the Honor 6 Plus
Moving on to specs, the Honor 6 Plus is packed with an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 925 processor, a Mali-T628 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM.
The smartphone sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution. It also boasts a dual 8-megapixel camera on the back, which features dual-LED flash, autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording.
We expect the next Nexus smartphone to come with slightly better specs than the Huawei Honor 6 Plus, so take the specs mentioned earlier as a guidance not as confirmed hardware.
Design-wise though, the Nexus 8 concept based on Huawei Honor 6 Plus looks pretty nice. Perhaps Google will make it look even better.
