Before MWC 2015 kick started in Barcelona, a rumor surfaced online claiming that Google was already working towards its next-gen Nexus device.

Sources familiar with the matter said Google would be partnering up with a Chinese OEM this time. Albeit not telling us the name of the company, the information revealed that Google’s upcoming hardware partner was also in the business of producing its own chips.

So we assumed the rumors were talking about Huawei, who is also producing Kirin silicone. Anyway, yesterday we apparently got the confirmation that Huawei would indeed be the OEM behind the next-gen Nexus.

Kevin Yang, director of China Research at iSuppli, a well-known and highly respected research company, confirmed on Weibo that Google would be partnering up with Huawei to bring the upcoming Nexus to life.

He also said that Google would be working with LG in 2015 as well, and we suppose the Korean company will be in charge of producing the next Nexus tablet.

A vision into what the Huawei Nexus might look like

Well, since we have the confirmation that Huawei will build the next Nexus, designers have already jumped at the opportunity to imagine the new Google smartphone.

DeviantArt user r4yntv has come up with a concept that shows us a very square-ish looking smartphone with a pretty chunky profile. It has Huawei’s logo plastered on the back and the Nexus brand up in front.

We’re also given the spec sheet. According to the designer, the next Nexus will have a 5.2-inch JDI OLED display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution (424 ppi), so it might as well be called the Nexus 5 2015. The screen would be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

The handset might be powered by Qualcomm’s recently launched Snapdragon 820 octa-core 64-bit CPU fitted with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

In the photography department, Huawei Nexus will offer a 13MP or 16MP RF Camera (4K HDR video, 1080p HDR slow-motion video) as the main shooter and an 8MP FF camera up in front.

The handset is envisioned to be pretty sleek with a 7.6 mm / 0.29 inch profile, which would make it skinnier than the current Nexus 6 that has a 10.1 mm / 0.39 inch profile, although this aspect isn’t really visible in the image.
