Google is expected to partner up with a Chinese OEM

Yesterday a rumor coming out of Asia claimed that Google is already working towards its next-generation Nexus device which will apparently be launched in the second half of the year.

Even more interesting, the insider information revealed that Google might be looking towards Chinese manufacturers to find a worthy partner for the upcoming Nexus device.

We speculated the search giant will probably end up choosing between Lenovo, Xiaomi and Huawei and today the same source comes back to reveal that we might have been right (as seen at Gizmo China).

Google will probably launch a tablet and a phone this year too

But there’s a little twist. Like in 2014, we’re probably going to see two separate Nexus devices grace us with their presence. Last year we saw the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 arrive, one made by Motorola while the other was manufactured by HTC.

Well, the same pattern will continue on repeating well into 2015. According to the source, one of these products will be made by LG (who already produced the Nexus 5, Nexus 4) while the other one will be made by the mysterious Chinese company.

Again, the insider doesn’t say the name of the company out loud, but it provides us with an important clue. Apparently, it’s unclear whether the mystery device maker will use one of its own SoCs or a Qualcomm one for the next Nexus.

That’s an interesting piece of information indeed. Let’s think about it for a second. Lenovo and Xiaomi don’t produce their own silicone, but Hauwei does.

Could Huawei be making the next Nexus phone?

The device maker has its own HiSilicone Kirin lineup they have been using inside their own products for quite a while now. On top of that, the company is known for its impressive dual camera modules like we have seen in the Honor 6 Plus.

The theory seems to be valid, but keep in mind it’s only a speculation for the time being. Google, Huawei or LG haven’t said anything about the matter, and until a more consistent leak comes along, we can’t really be sure of anything.

For the moment, we’re inclined to believe Huawei will make the next-gen Nexus phone, while LG might actually make the mythical next-gen Nexus 10 tablet we have been hoping for since forever
