Chinese handset manufacturer Huawei has finally introduced the MediaPad tablet in India. Huawei has recently announced that starting Q1 2012 all MediaPad units will be delivered with Ice Cream Sandwich on board.

However, the Indian version is thought to come with Android 3.2 Honeycomb platform. Fortunately, Huawei confirmed that customers who had already purchased a Honeycomb MediaPad slate would soon receive an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

All in all, Android fans living in India can now purchase the Huawei MediaPad for no less than Rs 28,000 (560 USD or 430 EUR). The folks over at AndroidOS found out that the tablet was at the moment live at Letsbuy, as well as other leading retailers across the country.

If the Chinese handset maker managed to push Ice Cream Sandwich to MediaPad as scheduled, this would be the first 7-incher to feature Android 4.0 operating system.

In this regard, it is also worth mentioning that Huawei MediaPad was among the first 7-inch tablets to be delivered with Honeycomb platform.

Aside from the 7-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display, the MediaPad packs a 5-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording.

Huawei MediaPad further sports GSM voice communication support and a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for self-portraits and video calls.

On the inside, the tablet packs a 1.2 GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon CPU, which is complemented by an Adreno 220 graphics processor unit. In addition, the slate embeds 5.8GB of internal memory, 8GB of ROM, 1GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

When it comes to connectivity, the MediaPad is an all-rounder and offers users HSDPA and Wi-Fi support, high-speed microUSB, Bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS support, as well as HDMI port.

Although the tablet seems to be a bit overpriced, there’s a high chance that Huawei may slash MediaPad’s price within the next few weeks.
