Just like many other manufacturers, Huwei took advantage of the 2011 Mobile World Congress, which takes place right now in Barcelona, Spain, to introduce its new range of mobile devices, including the new Ideos S7 Slim Android-running slate.

Huawei's new tablet is based on the older Ideos 7, but this time, the Chinese company decided to go with a capacitive touchscreen, instead of the resistive one used in the original Ideos, as well as with a redesigned chassis.

As far as its features go, the Ideos S7 Slim packs a 7-inch 800x480 display (which reminds us much more of a smartphone than a tablet), GPS, 8GB of internal memory, 3G, WiFi 802.11n and Bluetooth connectivity and an HD video player.

Users also get all the usual gravity, light and compass sensors and the tablet is video call, MMS&SMS ready.

The operating system of choice is Android 2.2 (codenamed Froyo), so we don't get a specialized tablet OS such as Honeycomb, but, at least you can access download apps via the Android Market.

Around the edges of the tablet we find a 3.5mm jack, a micro-SD card reader, a micro-USB port as well as a mini-HDMI video output.

No information regarding the specs of the Ideos S7 Slim are available, but since this is a redesigned version of the Ideos S7 is probably powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with at least 256MB of RAM.

“The Ideos range and our latest mobile broadband solutions are intuitive, simple to use products that offer users an enhanced mobile experience integrated seamlessly across different wireless technologies,” said Mr. Victor Xu, chief marketing officer of Huawei Device.

“As we move into 2011, Huawei will continue to lead the drive to provide consumers with smart mobile connectivity at the right price,” concluded the company's CMO.

The Ideos S7 Slim will be available starting April 2011 and we expect it to be priced around $300 US.
