It looks like Huawei is spreading its wings over Europe, as the Chinese handset manufacturer has just announced the availability of its Ideos X1 Android-powered smartphone in Portugal.

The low-cost smartphone can be purchased via Portuguese carrier Optimus and is available under a different name, which might be confusing for some, Optimus Stockholm.

Even though the first thing that comes to mind is LG's Optimus popular series of Android smartphones, this is not an LG device.

It will be interesting to see if LG will have something to say about this, though Huawei's device is named after the Portuguese carrier.

However, the latest rumors say that the phone may be picked by Orange, which is supposed to introduce the phone across Europe as Orange Stockholm.

Until then, Android fans can purchase the Optimus Stockholm from Optimus for only €99 without contract.

It is worth mentioning that the Stockholm is the second Optimus branded Android smartphone launched by the Portuguese carrier, after the popular Optimus Boston manufactured by Gigabyte.

Even though it's just an entry-level handset, the Optimus Stockholm features an interesting and very appealing design.

The Optimus Stockholm is powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo), but it will probably feature some bloatware courtesy to Optimus carrier.

There's no information regarding a possible software upgrade in the future, but it is highly unlikely that the phone will receive the Gingerbread update.

Furthermore, the phone is equipped with low-performance Qualcomm MSM7225 which is clocked at 528 MHz.

It also packs 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The device has a small 2.8-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen with 240 x 320 resolution and accelerometer, as well as a mediocre 3.2-megapixel camera and FM radio.

Optimus Stockholm is HSDPA-enabled and offers users multiple connectivity options, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS support.
