Chinese mobile phone maker Huawei appears set to make a splash on the mobile market this year, with plans for an 8-core processor set for the second half of this year.

For the time being, the company hasn’t provided specific info on the octa-core Cortex-A15 chip, but Engadget suggests that it might be either the HiSilicon K3V3 chipset or a similar processor.

Additionally, Huawei's Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu confirmed at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that a new device would be arriving on shelves soon in the company’s P series of Android phones.

Set to be unveiled at the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month, the new handset will feature a metallic body and will be very slim, taking the crown from the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra that was unveiled at CES 2013 with a 6.45mm thickness.
