The two handsets are compared side-by-side in images

Huawei Ascent Mate7 is the company’s flagship phablet that launched a few days before Apple had the chance to introduce its own take at this particular product category, coming in the form of the iPhone 6 Plus.

Now, as you might expect, Huawei’s new handset stands completely threatened by the advent of Apple’s latest. In an effort to show that the Ascent Mate7 is way cooler than the iPhone 6 Plus, Huawei’s CEO has posted a bunch of images on his Weibo account comparing the iPhone 6 Plus with their new phablet baby.

The Ascent Mate7 launched at IFA 2014

But first for a roundup related to the Ascent Mate7. The device sports a huge 6-inch screen and is really compact, with its dimensions being 6.18 x 3.19 x 0.31 inches / 157 x 81 x 7.9 mm. On top of that, it comes with an extremely thin bezel that is almost inexistent, so it boasts an 83% screen-to-body ratio.

In the case of the iPhone 6 Plus, the 5.5-inch screen takes up to 60% of the frontal panel.

By putting the Ascent Mate7 side-by-side with the iPhone 6 Plus, the Huawei boss wants to show the entire world how compact their latest phablet is, and as you can see, the images do not lie.

For comparison’s sake, the iPhone 6 Plus’ dimensions are 6.22 x 3.06 x 0.28 inches / 168 x 77.7 x 7.1 mm, so it’s a little bit narrower than the Huawei handset, while being 1 inch shorter and touting a half-inch smaller panel.

As you might notice by taking a look at these comparison images, the bottom bezel on the iPhone 6 Plus looks a lot chunkier than the svelte one present on the Ascent Mate7.

Huawei places the fingerprint scanner on the back

That’s because Apple has chosen to follow tradition and place their Touch ID finger print sensor in the home button (like with the iPhone 5s). While this might have worked on the 4-inch previous-gen handset, the results in the case of the latest product aren’t exactly pleasing to the eye.

Attacking the problem from a different perspective, Huawei has placed their fingerprint reading sensor on the back, so shrinking the bottom bezel to aesthetically pleasing levels wasn’t a problem for them.

And unlike the iPhone 6 Plus, which will sell for lots and lots of money (starting at $749 / €579), the Huawei Ascent Mate7 will be sold with a more affordable price tag ($499 / €386). All this does make the Huawei phablet a little more appealing, doesn't it?

Take a look at the comparison below and – who knows – maybe you’ll change your mind about purchasing the iPhone 6 Plus after all.
