The company has recently expressed its interest in acquiring the Finnish company

It all started yesterday with Huawei’s head of consumer business, Richard Yu, who said that the company was considering high-profile acquisitions, including that of companies such as Nokia.

“We are considering these sorts of acquisitions; maybe the combination has some synergies but depends on the willingness of Nokia. We are open-minded,” said Yu.

It looks like a possible acquisition of the Finnish company by Huawei made Nokia’s shares slightly rise, which means that such a takeover would be positive in the eyes of the stock exchange.

However, Reuters reports that Huawei’s vice president of external affairs, Bill Plummer, backtracked on the previous statements and made it clear that the Chinese company “has no plans to acquire Nokia.”

For the time being, the Finnish handset maker declined any comment on the subject, but given the recent denial from Huawei’s official, it’s now less likely to get Nokia’s opinion. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
