Chinese handset maker Huawei and US Cellular have just announced the immediate availability of the Ascend Y budget-friendly smartphone.

Although US Cellular claims the Ascend Y is available for as low as $29.99 USD (25 EUR) with a new two-year agreement, the smartphone is currently up for sale for only $0.01 USD on a 2-year.

Customers who wish to purchase the Huawei Ascend Y on prepaid can do so for just $99.99 USD (75 EUR). Check it out here.

Keep in mind that this is the Huawei Ascend Y200, not the slightly less-featured Ascend Y100. Both devices were launched on the market back in May, but only the former made it to the US for the moment.

US Cellular’s Ascend Y is aimed at those who are looking to buy their first Android smartphone in order to stay connected with friends and family.

The smartphone ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and is likely to stay on this version due to its low hardware configuration.

However, Ascend Y100 is Google-certified, which means users will have access to more than 600,000 apps and games via Google Play store. Google’s full suite of services and apps is included as well, such as Maps, Navigation, Gmail, YouTube and SWYPE input.

The Huawei Ascend Y sports a 3.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 320 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.

On the back, the handset packs a 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording. Furthermore, Huawei Ascend Y comes packed with DTS Envelo technology for virtual surround sound to enhance audio experience.

The Ascend Y is powered by an 800 MHz single-core Qualcomm MSM7225A Snapdragon processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 200 GPU and 512MB of ROM.

“The Huawei Ascend Y is perfect for the social and always connected consumer. The feature rich device provides more than 4.8 hours of talk time and 12.7 days of standby time which is perfect for multitasking. The Huawei Ascend Y builds on the success of the Ascend range of smartphones and delivers on Huawei’s commitment to make technology accessible for more people globally,” said Michael Chuang, executive vice president of Sales with Huawei Device USA.
