We reported about two weeks ago on Huawei Ascend W1's pre-order availability in Russia. Today, the affordable Windows Phone handset hit shelves for only 8,990 rubles outright, which is about $290 or €220.

As WMPoweruser point out, Wan Biao, Huawei CEO, said at the phone's official launch in Russia that the company's focus was on Android, but that it would support Windows Phone as well:

“For us all the focus is on Android, but we will also try Windows. Right now, the sales are good, but it’s pretty hard to predict Windows Phone. For one OS – Android – the consumers have spent time and their money to like it. We developed Windows 8 because we do believe some consumers will like it.”

Huawei Ascend W1 is one of the cheapest Windows Phone 8 handsets available on the market. The smartphone packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory and 4.0-inch IPS LCD display.
