The Ascend Mate7 might soon be updated to the new build

Even if Google announced Android M a few weeks ago, there are still a few smartphone manufacturers that are yet to deliver Android 5.0 Lollipop to their handsets. One eloquent example is Huawei, who hasn’t updated a single smartphone from its lineup.

Nevertheless, back in April, we told you that the company confirmed Android 5.0 for its Ascend Mate7, Mate 2, P7 and G7 handsets. Well, it appears that we’re not far from seeing Huawei begin the update process. At least for the Ascend Mate7.

The folks at Android Geek have posted a video tour and a few screenshots of an Ascend Mate7 model running not Android 5.0 but Android 5.1 Lollipop directly, with Emotion 3.1 UI plastered on top.

The video depicts a split screen multitasking mode that has two separate applications running at the same time. This is quite similar to what LG and Samsung smartphones have been offering for quite some time.

An option to minimize the display and other features facilitating single-handed operations are also visible in the images.

Huawei is running late in providing the Lollipop update

While the April report said that Android 5.0 Lollipop would make a debut in May, we are currently in June, which means Android 5.0 plans have probably been abandoned.

Currently, Huawei’s flagship is stuck at Android 4.4 KitKat, which must be really frustrating for owners. Other companies like Motorola, LG, Samsung or Sony have long updated their premium models to Lollipop, but Huawei seems to be taking its sweet time.

At this rate, Android M will be out and about when the company finally decides to update its handsets, so can we hope that older Huawei phones will be getting the Lollipop treatment after all? Nobody can say at this point.

The Ascent Mate7 arrives with a spacious 6-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and 368ppi. Huawei is not a believer in the 2K standard, although it’s pretty reasonable to expect its future phones to abide by this standard.

The phone is powered by an in-house HiSilicone Kirin 925 processor working in concert with 3GB of RAM and 16GB / 32GB of internal storage. The handset dons a 13MP main camera on the back and a 5MP unit up in front, and it is a pretty decent premium phone overall. Check out our review right here.
