The phablet was initially skipped from the update roadmap

The Ascend Mate2 is one of the smartphones with which Huawei is trying to establish a strong foothold in the US market. The phablet was announced at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 trade fair back in January and made it to market a few weeks later.

The smartphone was launched with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box and has yet to receive an upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat platform.

In fact, Huawei did not make any official statements regarding any major update for the Ascend Mate2, but customers who purchased the phablet are still expecting the company’s word on the matter.

With the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, expectations from those who own Ascend Mate2 increased, and for the first time since the release of the phablet in the United States, Huawei issues an official statement regarding the new OS update launched by Google.

According to that statement, Huawei Ascend Mate2 will never receive Android 4.4 KitKat update and will remain on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

“We’ve received word that unfortunately we will not be updating the Mate2 to Android KitKat. Our Mate2 is the first of many products we’ll continue to offer in the coming months, and you can expect superior hardware with the latest software going forward.”

As expected, Huawei’s decision to skip the Ascend Mate2 from getting the long-awaited Android 4.4 KitKat update made a lot of customers angry.

The Ascend Mate2 will be upgraded directly to Lollipop from Jelly Bean

Well, it looks like the negative feedback the Chinese handset maker received was so overwhelming that it made Huawei reconsider the update status of the Ascend Mate2.

We are very pleased to report that Huawei has just announced that Ascend Mate2 will in fact receive an Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade in the first half of 2015. Here is an excerpt of Huawei’s official statement:

“In light of your feedback, we have reassessed our upgrade strategy. We take our customers’ feedback seriously and want to ensure they have the best experience possible with the Mate2. The Mate2 upgrade will go from the current Jelly Bean directly to Lollipop.”

Although the owners of Huawei Ascend Mate2 will now have to wait even longer for a major upgrade to arrive on their phablets, at least they know they will get Lollipop instead of the, now older, Android 4.4 KitKat OS version.

Hopefully, Huawei will keep Ascend Mate2 owners in the loop regarding the development of the Lollipop update for their phablets as often as possible.
