The Ascend Mate is one of the largest Android smartphones soon to be available on the market. Manufactured by Chinese company Huawei, the phablet won’t be available globally unless it’s really successful in those few countries that it will be unleashed upon.

We reported less than a month ago that the Ascend Mate was available for pre-order in Australia via major retailer Harvey Norman, but we did not have any info regarding the phone’s availability at that time.

Today, the folks over at AusDroid report that Huawei plans to launch the Ascend Mate in Australia next week, during a special event where most of the press will be invited.

Huawei Ascend Mate is exclusive to Harvey Norman and customers can still pre-order it for only $430/€345 outright. Check it out here.

Keep in mind that the smartphone comes with a Boost unlimited prepaid starter kit worth $40/€30 in the sales package, which offers users unlimited talk, text and MMS, along with 3GB of mobile data.

Given the fact that the Ascend Mate boasts a really huge 6.1-inch IPS+ LCD capacitive touchscreen display, Huawei had to include a really good battery that could offer enough juice for the big screen.

Huawei Ascend Mate is powered by a high-capacity 4050 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 216 hours of standby time. According to Huawei, the battery charges very fast, saving over 30% of battery charging time.

It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone will ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, integrated with Huawei’s Emotion UI.

Hardware-wise, the Ascend Mate is equipped with a 1.5 GHz quad-core Huawei K3V2 processor, 2GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

There’s also an 8-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p@30fps) video recording, as well as a secondary 1-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.
