Chinese mobile phone maker Huawei is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new flagship smartphone in the coming months, and might launch it under the name of Huawei Ascend Mate 3.

The smartphone, spotted online a few times before as Huawei Ascend D3, is reportedly set to make an official appearance in September, and could mark the merger of phone maker’s Mate and D-series devices.

To be more precise, Chinese website IT168 suggests that the Ascend Mate 3 might actually mark the death of the D-series smartphones.

Huawei Ascend Mate 3 should arrive on shelves as a powerful phablet, courtesy of its large 6-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) resolution.

Moreover, rumor has it that the new device would arrive on shelves with an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 920 processor, which is being developed in-house by Huawei themselves.

The powerful chipset should be accompanied by 2GB of RAM, thus ensuring that users receive appealing performance capabilities at all times.

At the same time, Ascend Mate 3 should feature 16GB of internal memory, most probably paired with a microSD memory card slot, although this feature hasn’t been mentioned in relation to it as of now.

On the back, the upcoming mobile phone will sport a 13-megapixel camera, which should be capable of recording videos in full HD resolution.

Moreover, the smartphone is said to sport a 5MP front camera, thus providing appealing selfie-snapping capabilities and support for a great video chatting experience.

Support for 4G LTE networks is also expected to be included in the package, along with the usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS receiver.

Huawei Ascend Mate 3 will run under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right from the start, though it will also feature a variety of exclusive apps and features coming from Huawei itself.

What hasn’t been revealed as of now is when exactly the new smartphone will start arriving on shelves, and what price tag it will feature when that happens.

Details on which markets might receive it haven’t been offered either, though chances are that it will be released outside China as well, the same as it happened with its predecessors.

However, no official confirmation on the Huawei Ascend Mate 3 has been provided as of now, and it remains to be seen whether the above info will indeed pan out in the end. Keep an eye on this space for more on the matter.
