Unveiled earlier this month at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014, Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is expected to hit shelves before the end of this month.

According to GSMInsider, sources in the industry claim that the Ascend Mate 2 is set for release in China ahead of the Chinese New Year, January 31.

Along with the Ascend Mate 2, Huawei plans to launch the Ascend P6S in the Mainland as well. It is expected that both smartphones will be released around the same timeframe, though we’re still waiting for confirmations.

Even though Huawei did not disclose the Ascend Mate 2 and Ascend P6S price tags, word is that they will be available in China for 2,988 yuan ($495 / €360) and 2,288 yuan ($380 / €275), respectively.

Keep in mind though that Huawei has yet to officially introduce the Ascend P6S, so for the time being, we’re only certain that the Ascend Mate 2 will hit shelves in China in the coming weeks.

One of the largest smartphones on the market, Huawei Ascend Mate 2 boasts a huge 6.1-inch IPS+ LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass coating.

Hardware-wise, the phablet comes packed with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.6GHz, an Adreno 306 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

There are 16GB of storage inside, but users will be able to expand internal memory up to 64GB via microSD memory card. Another strong point of the phablet would be the 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Huawei Ascend P6S is said to come with a much smaller 4.7-inch display, but it will pack the same 1.6GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM.

Both smartphones are expected to ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, though Huawei may offer a KitKat upgrade soon after launch.
