Mobile phone users in Australia interested in the purchase of an affordable yet powerful Android-based handset can now head over to Optus’ stores to grab the Huawei Ascend G6.

The mobile phone was made official in February, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and has already landed on shelves on various markets around the world.

At Optus, it is available for purchase at $0 upfront on plans starting at $35 (€24) per month, with a minimum cost of $840.00 (€576) over 24 months. The offer also includes 200 minutes per month, along with 200MB of data, and unlimited texts.

The mobile phone can already be seen listed on the wireless carrier’s website, and those who would like to purchase it from the comfort of their homes can head there for that.

The handset arrives on shelves with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a qHD (245PPI) resolution and with a very slim body, capable of easily proving a great option for those looking for a sleek and capable device at an affordable cost.

Moreover, the smartphone is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and features an 8-megapixel camera on the back, with flash and support for full HD video recording. A 5MP front camera for selfies or making video calls while on the go was also included.

“The Huawei Ascend G6 is a value-packed yet fully featured smartphone with a slim and elegant curve combining a large 4.5” touch screen and 5MP front camera with 88-degree wide-angle for a great selfie,” the wireless carrier notes.

“The Huawei Ascend G6 is just 7.85mm thin with a beautiful curved edge that means this mobile phone nestles nicely in your hand, pocket or purse.”

Huawei launched the Ascend G6 with 8GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot for storage expansion purposes.

The specs list of this phone also boasts the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities, along with a built-in GPS receiver, and a 2000mAh battery. The phone comes with support for 4G LTE and 3G networks.

“Comes with 4G so you can access all the speed benefits of the Optus 4G network. Things like quicker downloads, smoother streaming video and gaming with less lag,” the carrier notes.

On the downside, however, we should note that the Huawei Ascend G6 runs under the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system for the time being. Most probably, it will be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat, but no specific info on when that might happen has been provided as of now.
