Chinese handset maker Huawei and Vodafone have just introduced the mid-range Ascend G510 smartphone in the UK.

Android enthusiasts looking for an affordable smartphone with powerful enough features can purchase the Huawei Ascend G510 for only £130/€150/$200 on PAYG (pay as you go).

Moreover, those who don’t mind committing to a long-term contract can grab the Ascend G510 at no upfront price from £13 per month.

According to Huawei, the Ascend G510 is the spiritual successor of the Ascend G300, so those who already own the latter may want to upgrade and take advantage of the new features offered by the former.

“Huawei is bringing new hardware and software innovation to this market; and not just to the high-end. For years, ‘entry-level’ smartphones have meant compromise – phones not powerful enough, with screens not big enough, to be able to truly deliver on the promise of the mobile internet,” said James Powell, Huawei Device UK, director of product management.

Huawei Ascend G510 ships with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, integrated with the company’s Emotion UI.

Hardware-wise, the device packs a more than decent 1.2 GHz dual-core MediaTek 6577 processor, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX531 GPU and 512MB of RAM.

The smartphone comes packed with only 4GB of internal memory, but users will be able to expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The Ascend G510 sports a large 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 854 pixels resolution.

It also features a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, as well as secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

“The Ascend G510 is the latest in a line of Huawei smartphones to challenge that, and our most powerful yet in the low-to-mid tier. It brings the very latest smartphone technology to the heart of the broad consumer mass market, delivering big-screen mobile entertainment without compromise,” concluded Powell.
