A new Android-based smartphone from Huawei has just received the necessary approvals for the Chinese market, namely the Huawei Ascend D2.

The smartphone packs a 5-inch 1080p Full HD touchscreen display, just as the HTC Butterfly and the Oppo Find 5 smartphone that was launched today.

The phone is expected to become available in China in early 2013, and might be officially unveiled during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, rumor has it.

The handset is also said to include a 1.4GHz K3V2 quad-core processor inside, along with a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and a powerful 3000mAh battery.

In China, the Huawei Ascend D2 features model number D2-2012 and offers support for CDMA2000 / GSM networks. Another model is also expected to be unveiled, with support for WCDMA.

I just can’t imagine why many people would need a quad core processor unless they are using it for games. There aren’t even a lot of apps or games for phones that would require that much power. I like how it is good for longevity though since four cores will keep up with the new app market well. Right now I use my Note II for work and watching a lot of TV. The larger screen of both of these phones, along with my DISH Sling Adapter that my DISH coworker gave me, allow me to watch TV anytime I want. I just downloaded the DISH Remote Access app on my Note and iPad and now I watch more TV than I ever did when I would try to find time at home.
