Chinese handset manufacturer Huawei and MetroPCS have teamed up to offer U.S. customers the former's first LTE-enabled smartphone.

While this is not MetroPCS' first LTE smartphone, the Activa 4G is definitely the first of its kind manufactured by Huawei for the U.S. Market. Customers can purchase the handset beginning today for only $149 USD outright.

MetroPCS also mentions that the phone is available at this promotional price for a limited time, after which its price tag will be bumped to an undisclosed amount.

However, those looking for a super-phone should look elsewhere as the Huawei Activa 4G is far from being being impressive when it comes to hardware.

Software-wise, the Activa 4G is powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. On the inside, the smartphone packs a single core processor clocked at 800 MHz.

There are no details on the amount of memory, but it's been confirmed that the device comes with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The addition of Huawei as a new 4G LTE handset provider is a great step for us as we continue to expand our portfolio of affordable, feature-rich 4G LTE devices at an exceptional value,” said Tom Keys, president and chief operating officer of MetroPCS.

Furthermore, Huawei Activa 4G sports a pretty decent 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel rear photo snapper with LED flash, as well as a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video call.

According to Huawei, the smartphone is equipped with a GCT GDM7240 single-chip 4G LTE solution.

We are honored to bring our first 4G LTE device to U.S. audiences with the support of MetroPCS’ powerful and expansive network. MetroPCS is committed to providing customers with advanced, flexible and affordable smartphone options through its no-annual contract services, and is the ideal partner for Huawei’s entrance into a new era for smartphones and handsets,” added Michael Chuang, executive vice president of Huawei Device USA.
