The videos and photos of the iPhone 6 show strange, un-Apple-like bugs

iPhone 6 with a clock bug? The moving hands extend over the numbers.

iPhone 6 with a clock bug? The moving hands extend over the numbers.

The story of the day comes from two Weibo users in China. They've posted a few pictures and videos of what they call the next-generation iPhone 6 running iOS 8. At first sight, the leaks seems legit. However, a close inspection of the shots and videos reveal some details the clone makers may have left out.

The phone is running iOS 8 (or maybe just an iOS 8-skinned Android) and although the screen size is larger, the icons are the same size. Apple may have chosen this to add an extra row of icons on the bottom of the screen. We have taken the leaked photos for a closer overview and have found a few inconsistencies with Apple's way of doing things.

First of all, the Clock icon on iOS 8 has the moving hands much longer than usual. They even extend over the numbers. Note that Apple has not changed the Clock.app icon since the release of iOS 7.0 (October of 2013) and it was the same in iOS 8 BETA until now.

The second strange aspect of these leaks is the internal storage of the device. The photos show that it has 56.0 GB of available space. A 64GB iPhone running iOS 8 usually has 57.4 GB of space when taken out the box. Also, the device shown has no 3rd party apps installed, no music, videos or photos. But the available space shows as 55.3 GB. That's 700 MB less than it should have. What would take 700MB on a brand new iPhone?

Considering this is a genuine iPhone 6, running iOS 8, it should have the latest Beta firmware, since Apple did not release a GM just yet. However, the version number is different than the current iOS 8 Beta one.

Other small details that raised some questions are related to the color of the icons. They look like the ones in iOS 8 Beta 1. Since then, Apple has toned down the greens and the blues in the default app icons so they are not so bright right now.

Our opinion is shared by one of the famous Apple leakers, Steve Hemmerstoffer of the French tech blog nowhereelse.fr. He noted that the home button of the shown device is not made of sapphire glass, but some matte plastic and the Apple logo should be inlaid, but it is not.

It remains to be seen if this buggy version of iOS (if true) will look anything like the final one. Until then, just take a look at the videos, photos and our findings in the gallery below and let us know your thoughts.

Apple is expected to release the iPhone 6 in two different sizes: a 4.7-inch diagonal display and a larger, 5.5-inch screen. The big event of the fall will take place on Tuesday, September the 9th.
