Cellular South has finally released the highly-anticipated Android 2.2 Froyo software update for its rebranded Galaxy S.

Dubbed as Samsung Showcase, the smartphone was initially delivered with Android 2.1 (Eclair), but the latest EE25 update will bring the phone's firmware to Froyo.

The update is available via Samsung Kies Mini desktop software. However, you need to make sure that you download that latest version of the synch software and that you have the newest Samsung drivers.

It is recommended to back up all data such as contacts, pictures, music, videos, prior to performing the update as data could be lost.

Even after doing a back up, certain types of data or settings may be lost and will need to be reset, such as the desktop folders and applications shortcuts on the idle screen, settings for music, desk cradle settings and downloaded ringtones encrypted with DRM software.

To avoid bricking your Showcase smartphone make sure that the phone's battery is fully charged before starting the update process.

After installing the latest version of Samsung Kies Mini, you will be prompted to restart your computer.

While the PC is restarting make the appropriate settings to the phone by going to Menu / Settings / USB settings and check Samsung Kies option.

Open Kies Mini, plug the USB cable into the phone and click on Phone Upgrade option. You will then be able to click on the Upgrade tab and download the EE25 software update.

As soon as the download is complete, Samsung Kies Mini will start updating the phone's software, which should take around 10-15 minutes.

Beside bringing the firmware version to Android 2.2 Froyo, the latest major software update fixes the following issues: - Fixed, Missed voice call while playing YouTube content; - Fixed, Restore Buddies now contact list after upgrade; - Fixed, Force-close issue when Voice call ringtone menu selected after setting Default ringtone; - Fixed, Restore default ringtone if Speak Caller ID selected prior to upgrade EC10; - Fixed, Google Client ID change; - Google Rooting security patch; - Google Market security patch.

This is one of the last Galaxy S models to taste Google's Android 2.2 Froyo update.
