According to an update signed iPhone Dev Team, the ultrasn0w hack aimed at providing a carrier unlock for iPhone owners is now compatible with the latest version of the handset - iPhone 4. The move comes on the heels of jailbreakme.com becoming available again, following the Electronic Frontier Foundations’ to label jailbreaking iPhones legal.

Unlocking, however, does not fall in the same category of approved hacks, while Apple doesn’t condone any whatsoever when it comes to its iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Yet the iPhone Dev Team is proud to announce that ultrasn01 now works with iPhone 4: “We’re happy to tell you that our ultrasn0w carrier unlock now supports the iPhone4!”, reads the newest blog update from the hackers.

“Version 1.0-1 of ultrasn0w works for: iPhone4 baseband 01.59 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04

(If ultrasn0w doesn’t show when you search Cydia, add the repo:  repo666.ultrasn0w.com),” the post continues.

A how-to video from @AdamFromYT shows the installation process on the iPhone 4 (embedded below). The footage shows how an iPhone 4 user can employ the newly-updated ultrasn0w in order to gain support for multiple wireless service operators. By contrast, an iPhone sold in the US that hasn’t been tampered with can only work on AT&T’s network.
