Apple says to use Server.app to reset the user’s password

In a support document updated September 5, Apple outlines the procedure to use when a user makes one too many unsuccessful attempts to log into OS X Server.

Targeting organizations that set a certain number of login attempts in a server, a KB article on Apple’s Support site tells administrators what to do when they are faced with a locked account.

“When a user makes too many unsuccessful attempts to log in to OS X Server, the account will be locked if it meets the limit set by server policy. Follow the included instructions to unlock a locked user and allow them access,” according to the document.

Apple says admins can employ Server.app to reset the user's password, but there’s an alternative as well. According to the same KB article, “If desired, you can force the user to change their password again after logging in.”

The Cupertino giant doesn't say how admins are supposed to "force" the user to create a new password, but I'm sure a plank and a sword won't be necessary in many offices.
