UnShaker7 is fully compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 7

Tired of sliding to unlock your iPhone? A developer identified simply as “Jack” offers an inexpensive tweak in the Cydia store for jailbroken devices, which allows users to replace the “slide-to-unlock” action with a simple shake of the device.

That’s right. The $0.99 (€0.70) jailbreak tweak adds an extra setting to your phone that lets you enable a “shake-to-unlock” function. All you have to do is basically pick up your device and shake it until the display lights up and switches to the Home screen.

It’s not necessarily easier than sliding, but if you’re looking for a change in your daily routine, UnShaker7 could be a nice addition to your existing range of jailbreak tweaks.

According to the developer, the tweak is fully compatible with iPads, iPhones, and iPods running on iOS 7.0 through 7.0.6 and works with 64-bit devices, such as iPhone 5s and iPad Air. UnShaker7 comes with an option to “Override Passcode” and a setting that enables the tweak “Only if on AC,” which presents a layer of security (albeit a very thin one).

According to Jack, the latter option will only enable the tweak when you are charging your device, or if it’s fully charged. The developer promises to add many more settings in future releases of UnShaker7. Once installed, the tweak requires a respring. UnShaker7 is enabled by default but can be immediately customized (including switched off) in the Settings.

It isn’t clear if newer firmware versions (like iOS 7.1 or iOS 7.1.1) are supported, but it’s reasonable to assume that if iOS 7.1 thwarts the newest jailbreak exploits, then the tweak also becomes unusable.

Jailbreak developers have been reluctant to try and exploit the newest iOS 7 firmware versions, and it’s very likely that things will stay as they are until Apple rolls out iOS 8.

That’s not to say the evad3rs (or any other group of hackers, for that matter) have announced any plans to jailbreak iOS 8. Apple must first release a developer preview so that the hackers have something to tinker with.

While it’s likely that iOS 8 will also be jailbreakable, there’s also a good chance Apple will make it even harder for the hacker community to inject code using exploited bugs.

Jailbreaks have also lost their flair considerably in recent years, meaning that the hackers’ incentive to develop jailbreaks has also diminished dramatically. Currently, the latest available jailbreak (Evasi0n7 version 1.0.8) is for iOS 7.0.6.
