Surface RT is undoubtedly an interesting tablet, but if there’s something to complain about, it’s the lack of support for legacy Windows apps. Windows RT is based on ARM processors after all, so that’s not at all shocking. But it seems like there’s actually a way to launch x86 and x32 apps on Windows RT. The Remote Desktop app designed for Windows 8 and Windows RT (and available in the Store) allows users to connect to a remote computer that runs the legacy programs.
Sadly, there’s a
catch. The Remote Desktop tool is developed with an enterprise goal in mind, so it needs Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2008 R2 to run correctly.
Long story short, it’s actually a way to use the Surface tablet in order to connect to a remote computer that runs legacy Windows apps. It’s not revolutionary, but it’s the only way to do it.
