Apple has put out a notice for Apple ID holders advising everyone to take security matters seriously and consider adding two-step verification to their account.

For your protection, Apple recommends that you flip on two-step verification of your Apple ID.

While this is an optional security feature, turning it on “reduces the possibility of someone accessing or making unauthorized changes to your account information at My Apple ID or making purchases using your account,” according to the Cupertino giant.

To reduce the chances of having someone hack into your Apple ID, set up two-step verification at My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com) using these simple steps, Apple says.

1. Select “Manage your Apple ID” and sign in. 2. Select “Password and Security.” 3. Under Two-Step Verification, select Get Started and follow the on-screen instructions.

Both your password and a four-digit verification code (sent to one of your devices) will be required before anyone can sign in to manage that particular Apple ID, or make purchases.
