How to Print in OS X 10.7 Lion

Apple has issued a Support note on how to print in OS X Lion, the latest version of the company’s Mac operating system. Aspects described range from setting up a printer to sharing a printer queue, and more.

Support document HT4670, titled ‘OS X Lion: Overview of printing’ has the purpose of teaching Mac users how to use the printing functions of OS X 10.7. The instructions apply to any version of OS  X Lion.

The list of topics covered is provided as follows. Each section is expandable, with each one containing a wealth of information complete with imagery.

For example, Apple tells users that, in order to start a print job, they will simply have to choose choose File > Print… from any application that can print or press ⌘P (Command-P), at which point OS X will pop up a print sheet.

Apple informs customers that their computer will “either have the necessary printing software already installed, or it will automatically download and install software when the printer is connected or configured.”

The company advises users against installing software that came with the printer, as it may be out of date.

Also, users must not connect the printer to their Mac until they make sure everything is set, both software- and hardware-wise.

“Follow the instructions that came with the printer to unpack, install ink or toner, and insert paper. Finally, use the instructions in this article to connect the printer to your Mac,” says the company.

Customers must ensure their printer is listed in Printer and scanner software for OS X Lion.
